Hot Pepper Contest Form

Thank you for signing up to compete in the Royal Oak Taco Fest Hot Pepper Contest!

Please arrive at the Michigan Lottery Stage at least 15 minutes before the competition is scheduled to begin. Reminder, registration does grant you admission to the festival. Upon arrival, please check-in at the gate at 6th and Main Street using the name that you registered with.

RULES:

1. All contestants must be at least 18 years or older and complete a release and waiver onsite. 

2. Participants are able to withdraw at any point in the competition. 

3. As the competition progresses, each pepper will get hotter based on the Scoville Heat Scale (SU).

4. Each contestant will be required to finish one full pepper each round of the competition: flesh, seeds, and membrane of the pepper. 

5. After the time is called by the judge, contestants will have one minute to finish any remaining pepper in their mouth to complete the round and move on. This does not apply in the event of a tie.

6. The winner will be the last willing contestant remaining in the contest after all rounds are completed.

7. If Round 5 enters a tie, the contestant who eats the most Ghost Peppers in 30 seconds is the winner.

8. Contestants are not permitted to use any sort of protective coating inside their mouth prior to competing. Any contestant found to do so will be disqualified from the competition. 

9. No outside food or drink allowed on stage. 

10. Each contestant will be provided one bottle of water and one glass of milk for the competition. Any contestant who drinks the glass of milk during the competition will be disqualified. 

11. Becoming sick (vomiting) during a round will result in disqualification.

12. By participating, each contestant acknowledges their awareness that excess consumption of hot peppers can lead to and/or contribute towards health issues. If you have any questions, we recommend consulting your physician before participating.
